Fossil Group Set to Launch 300 Smart Watches across their Brand Portfolio

Smartwatches exploded onto the scene in the last 12-18 months, with the likes of the Pebble watch and the Apple Watch both proving phenomenally popular with consumers. However since then, many of the established technology brands appear to be putting less of a focus on the smartwatch market, presumably as they see the Apple Watch as too much competition.

However the Fossil Group will be bucking this trend in 2017, after announcing that they will be releasing 300 new smart and hybrid watches this year, with many focused squarely at the health and fitness niche.

The Fossil Group boasts a wide range of popular brands, and their wearable tech releases will be split across the portfolio, with releases due from Emporio Armani, Misfit, Diesel, Michael Kors, DKNY, Skagen, Marc Jacobs and Fossil watches.

Although the different watches will vary in design and styling, and each will have their own ‘micro-app’ offering unique functionality, all 300 watches will share more or less the same specification. Each will feature a Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipest, an AMOLED screen and will run on Android Wear 2.0.

Fossil hasn’t revealed the exact functionality of the watch range, but have confirmed that the majority will be hybrid watches, using an analogue face with smart features, most focused around fitness, activity tracking and health. We would expect this to mean activity tracking, heart rate monitoring, calorie burning counts and timing features, as well as some notification features from smartphone connectivity.

The first of the watches will be launches this summer, and will be the Fossil Q Accomplice and the Fossil Q Activist, followed by hybrid watches from across the Fossil Group brand portfolio.
So if you’re in the market for a new piece of wearable tech that will allow you to track your fitness and activity, it may be worth waiting just a couple of months to see what’s released from the Fossil brand catalogue.
